Missing in Action

Yes I can really say that I have been missing in action for the last while and part of that is I didn't have much to write about as I was able to handle my allergies most of the time over the last year and a half. Now a new challenge has risen and am having some challenges dealing with it.

In December I decided to have a blood test to see if I had any food intolerance. I figured I had a few but I didn't realize I was going to have as much as the results showed. The test was for 250 foods and I ended up with 26 moderate intolerances and 23 severe intolerances. Now to say this didn't upset me would be an understatement because it was really hard to deal with when I say the list.

Moderate Intolerance - avoid 10 - 12 weeks
Anchovies - Black Bass - Black Tea
Blueberries - Cherries - Chicken egg - white
Chicken egg - yolk - Cocoa Bean - Coffee
Fennel - Garlic - Karaya Gum
Lima Beans - Mung Beans - Nettle
Papaya - Parsley - Patent blue
Raspberries - Sage - Sorbic Acid
Tangerine - Vanilla - Watermelon
White Bass - Whitefish

Severe Intolerance - avoid 6 - 12 months
Almond - Aspartame - Banana
Bell peppers - Black pepper - Cashew nut
Chili - Grape - Grape - Concord
Green pepper - Herring - Mustard greens
Mustard seed - Orange - Paprika
Peanut - Pork - Raisins
Red pepper - Salmon - Spinach
Strawberries - Tuna

Ok, the fish on the list is going to be very easy to avoid as I don't like eating fish so no problem. The biggest problems are coffee, tea, peppers, garlic, aspartame, mustard, and grapes. I have now started to see where mustard is hidden in foods and that is one of the bigger challenges for me. I have been finding that a lot of the things that I ate had mustard in it so have had to change lots of foods. The other thing is I do enjoy a glass of wine so now that is out of the question for the next 6 - 12 months.

These results were given to me the week before Christmas and after a couple of rough days things started to get a little better. Maybe the biggest reason for the getting better is after taking about 75% of the foods I ate and now have to avoid out of my diet I started to feel better and it has continued so far.

So far I have made my own bbq square and boston baked beans which have both turned out pretty good. Now to see what else I end up making so that I can enjoy the things that I normally have been eating.

Keep an eye here because things are going to be written about as I come across different challenges and over come them.
