I have been dealing with my food allergies the best way I can and it is talking about them. Sometimes I get tired of having to explain where to find cottonseed but at least I am handling things a little better.
Last weekend I did find out something that I did find interesting. I have been having some problems when I eat eggs and have wondered why. I have been doing a lot of research and finally found out what may be causing some of my problem. I discovered that chickens are feed oyster shells to assist in making the shells of the eggs harder. So this may be one of the reasons why eggs bother me sometimes and not other times.
My challenge now is to try and find an egg that is produced without using oyster shells in the feed. Fingers crossed that I will find a source so that I can go back to enjoying eggs.

Chimo Hotel Ottawa experience
It is so hard to deal with allergies while traveling but tonight had a wonderful experience. We are currently traveling and staying in Ottawa for one evening and had to say that the dinner that we had at the hotel tonight was a wonderful experience. Our server understood my concerns about pineapple juice in barbecue sauce and he checked it. I ended up ordering a full rack of ribs and have to admit that they were some of the best ribs I have had for a very long time. They were maple smoked and very tender as the meat fell off the bones.
I have to stay that I felt very safe eating at the hotel and the prices were unbelievable for our food. I had a full rack of ribs for only $13.95 which is extremely low compared to what we normally pay.
I hope the rest of our vacation is like this as it will make our vacation a wonderful experience. I will try and most more of what we find during this week away.
Now to rest and try and maybe go down to the exercise room later to burn off some of the ribs.

Wonderful experience at a wedding
I am writing this post the day after we were at a wedding and wanted to write about a wonderful experience that I had. Yes having the number of allergies that I have makes it hard to eat out especially at a group event.
Yesterday two good friends of ours got married and we were invited to the wedding. Of course we had to let them know about all of my food allergies. When the invitation arrived we had choices for the main meal. Of course there was a chicken selection that I really wanted but figured it would be best if I stuck with the steak option because to me ssteak is the best thing to eat while we are out in groups.
During the reception before dinner there were a number of items that were shellfish but I avoided them and had no problem at all. Avoiding appetizers at events is something that I have been getting able to handle. The main meal was going to be the challenge for me.
After we were seated for dinner one of the servers came around with the list of choices that everyone had. I did make sure that I mentioned to her about my shellfish allergy just to make sure that it had been noted but had a feeling it would have been considering the bride is a chef.
While we were waiting for dinner to arrive another person from the kitchen came over to our table and asked where I was sitting. I talked to this person and she let me know that the everyone with regards to the main course would be no problem at all for me which made me feel good and she also let me know that one of the desserts I couldn't have because it was raspberry. I was very surprised when she said that because on the reply card I didn't mention my other food allergies because I know I can normally just avoid them. After the person left our table I found out the my husband had sent an e-mail to the bride with all of my allergies and it must have been passed onto the caterers.
Boy was I in for a surprise when the main course showed up because instead of getting the steak that I had settled on I received the chicken which I had preferred. Yes during all the conversations between my husband and the bride he mentioned that I would like the chicken but probably would settle for the steak which I did. What a great dinner experience this was because normally during bigger events I make sure I have snack food with me in case I need it. This time I didn't need any of my snacks I had with me.
After having such a great dinner experience I asked if I could speak to the head of the kitchen and he came out to talk to me. I wanted to say thanks because of how safe I felt. When I was talking to him I found out that after the appetizers they had sterilized the kitchen to make sure everything was free of shellfish and also no meal had vegetable oil in it because of my allergies. What a wonderful place this was and for a group to care this much really meant a lot to me.
Yes the chef background of the bride helped but also have a place that understands and cares about allergies sure makes for a wonderful experience. All I can say is I was extremely impressed with the entire dinner experience last night.
See it does work if you let people know what you are allergic to.

Life and allergies
I know I haven't posted for quite a while and part of that is because I didn't know how to write some of my thoughts out.
Dealing with severe allergies sure have their ups and downs and sometimes I feel like too many things are against me. Now to try and keep up with posting so that I can deal with some of my ups and downs a little easier.
I have been extremely busy at work as well so that hasn't helped me either because my time at home has been away from the computer.
